Apprenticeships
We are recruiting apprentices for placement in one of our six residential homes around Bristol and South Gloucestershire. These homes are all different and cover a range of needs. The smallest of our homes caters for up to 12 elderly people, whilst we have two homes delivering care to residents with dementia, our largest home is for up to 30 people with accommodation in people’s own suites. As an apprentice you will have the opportunity to benefit from a wealth of different experiences with different client groups. For more information please contact us for a copy of our Apprentice Guide, the information below should help you to decide if you would like to apply.
How do I apply?
• You should first contact us for an application form telling us that you wish to apply as an apprentice via our contact page. Please ask for a copy of our Apprentice Guide if you would like one.
• As part of the clearance process you will go to the home for an interview and a tour. Once you have agreed to take up a placement at that home you will be expected to give it a fair trial.
What support can I expect to receive as an apprentice?
• An assigned mentor as a first point of contact.
• Regular contact with the Apprentice Co-ordinator.
• Full induction and training.
What if my placement is too far away from home?
• This is where the interview and tour are important. If you feel that you won’t get to work on time then you need to be honest during this process.
Will I be expected to work shifts?
• Yes. You will be working in residential care and it is important that you learn the routine of the home at different times of day. You will be allocated a mixture of shifts to include evenings and weekends. You will not be expected to work night shifts.
What if I need further support?
• The Company will do all it can to provide you with the support you require to be successful, you can contact the Apprenticeship Co-ordinator who will be happy to help.
• It is important that you are honest with your workplace manager and mentor.
What will I be paid?
• The rate starts on the Government approved apprentice rate and then does increase as you progress through the scheme.
• The apprentice rate is set by the Government and will vary in line with changes made to the scheme.
Do I need to attend college?
• This is a full time post based on 5 days per week on a Fixed Term Contract. A day is given either to study at your workplace or to attend college.
What if I do not progress within the timeframes and there is a delay to the start of my 3 month progression plan or the completion of my Diploma/Award?
• Even though the scheme is quite structured, we realise that everyone learns at different rates.
• It can be flexible and the periods can be extended, not indefinitely but enough to allow an individual to develop at their own pace.
We will ensure you have a full and comprehensive induction programme which delivers the core values and principles of social care as well as the legal requirements needed for a career in Health and Social Care. Joining AbleCare Homes promises a rewarding and fulfilling experience. As our services develop we regularly have vacancies for staff at all levels who will help to enhance the lives of our residents.
